Seals Secures Key Endorsements

Past Kirk Supporters Back Seals in 10th Race

(Deerfield, IL)—In yet another indication that the tide is turning in Illinois’ 10th Congressional District, Democratic Candidate Dan Seals today won the endorsement of three major organizations that had previously backed Republican Mark Kirk.

The League of Conservation Voters Action Fund (LCV), the Associated Fire Fighters of Illinois (AFFI), and the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) all chose to back Seals over conservative Republican Bob Dold – a signal that Seals is putting together the diverse coalition necessary to win this open seat.  Dold, on the other hand, has been embraced almost exclusively by the right, including an endorsement from the anti-choice Illinois Federation for the Right to Life.

“I am honored to have earned the support of such well-respected organizations,” said Seals. “Our campaign is about moving beyond politics as usual and pursing thoughtful solutions to the economic struggles Illinois families are facing.  Today’s endorsements demonstrate that is what voter across the district are looking for.”

“Dan’s campaign is about common sense solutions for moving our economy and country forward,” said Pat Devaney, President, AFFI. “He doesn’t play political games.  He stays focused on helping Illinois families and understands that voters are looking for a true leader.  That’s what we have in Dan Seals.”

“Dan Seals is a proven leader in the public and private sectors who knows how to bring clean energy jobs to Illinois communities,” said LCV President Gene Karpinski. “We are proud to endorse Dan Seals because he understands that the best way to get our skilled workers back on the job is with policies that encourage American clean energy and innovation while reducing our dependence on foreign oil and curbing harmful pollution.”

The Human Rights Campaign praised Seals for his leadership on LGBT issues. “Dan exemplifies the type of independent leadership our nation needs,” said Joe Solomonese, President of the Human Rights Campaign.   “A man of deep principal and integrity, Seals will fight for the civil rights of the LGBT community and all Americans.”

A businessman and public policy lecturer at Northwestern University, Seals has drawn national attention and support in his race to win the seat being vacated by Republican Mark Kirk.
