Seals accompanies local WWII veteran on Honor Flight to Washington

DEERFIELD, IL – Last week, Democratic Congressional Candidate Dan Seals accompanied retired Major Albert Chafetz of Northbrook to Washington D.C. as part of Honor Flight Chicago, a non-profit program which provides local World War II veterans with an all-expenses paid day trip to our nation’s capital to visit the memorials in honor of their service.
After a full day of touring and sightseeing, the veterans returned to Chicago for the welcome home celebration they never had in 1945. Nearly 1,000 family, friends, and fellow members of the armed service flooded Chicago Midway International Airport’s baggage claim area on Wednesday night. Raising signs, balloons, and American flags, they cheered for their heroes as a brass band played patriotic music.
“Without question or complaint, these Americans put their lives on hold to serve their country,” said Seals. “We can never fully repay our veterans for their patriotism and sacrifice, but we can and will fight to make sure they get the support they need and the recognition they deserve. This experience was an honor I will never forget.”

Small businesses are the backbone of our local economy — accounting for two-thirds of new jobs in the United States — and the financial downturn has hit them especially hard.
The basic costs of doing business are high. The cost of health care is high. And then, when small businesses try to get the loans they need from community banks to stay afloat, they are increasingly being turned away. Read more »

DEERFIELD, IL – Following an announcement from a House investigative panel that U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters (CA) would stand trial for violating ethics regulations, Democratic Congressional Candidate Dan Seals announced today that he has donated all contributions from Rep. Waters to local charities throughout the 10th District.
In 2008, Seals received $5,000 from Rep. Waters’ political action committee, People Helping People.
“Small businesses, non-profits, and community service organizations have been hit especially hard by the economic downturn,” said Seals. “They are on the front lines, directly helping families who need it most, and I’m proud to support their efforts.”
Seals donated the funds to a number of organizations, including the Hadley School for the Blind (Winnetka), the YWCA of Lake County, Community Action Partnership of Lake County/Head Start (Waukegan), Jewish Council for Youth Services, and Daisy’s Resource and Development Center (North Chicago).
The 2008 contribution is the only contribution that Seals has received from Waters.

Issue Spotlight: Our National Debt

This fiscal year, the U.S. government is already running a $1.6 trillion budget deficit and our total national debt has risen to more than $13.2 trillion. That’s $42,000 of debt for every woman, man, and child in America. This is more than a bankroll problem–it is a national crisis. With this growing debt, we stand to be the first generation to leave our nation in worse shape for our children. As the father of three young daughters, I refuse to let that happen.
The federal government should use the same fundamental budgeting process as all households: you can only spend what you can afford. Millions of Americans live within their means every day, and so should our government. Read more
